April 2012 – As a member of the Consortium Bus Électrique, GIRO will put its expertise in vehicle schedule optimization to good use. The goal: to develop scheduling tools that will adhere to the specific needs of electric vehicles.
The new optimization tools that GIRO is developing are an integral part of the success of the program getting on the road. This is because the buses will require enough charging time between journeys.
The Consortium Bus Électrique is a non-lucrative organization which is responsible for managing this project. It is composed of two groups:Nova Bus, Bathium Canada, TM4, GIRO, René Matériaux Composites and Précicad for the development of the electric buses; and InfoDev, STYL&TECH, and Structures CPI for the development of electric microbuses.
The project has been spurred onward with $73 million registered towards 2010-2013 Québec Research and Innovation Strategy and the 2011-2020 Electric Vehicles Action Plan.
Thanks to the $30 million grant from the Québec government, GIRO and the other members of the consortium will continue to collaborate on creating a public transit system that is sustainable on a global level.
