May 2010 – At the 2010 CUTA Annual Meeting in Ottawa, Serge Galarneau, GIRO’s Director of Routing, gave a presentation on the GIRO/ACCES software solution. The presentation was part of a session focusing on customers: Business Members Showcase – Accessibility products. You can read the abstract below, or click on the image to access the full presentation in PDF format.
Efficient paratransit service is crucial to individuals for whom regular public transportation is not an option. For many, this specialized mobility enhances quality of life by providing essential access to the community. GIRO/ACCES software helps paratransit service providers develop efficient, cost-effective schedules and routes while ensuring high-quality customer service.
The software’s powerful scheduling algorithm combines booked trips into planned runs that consider issues such as average driving speed, calculated travel distance, and vehicle capacity. Flexible management tools let users create fixed-length or dynamic runs, modify trips manually or automatically, and create runs that support mixed fleets (e.g. minibuses, vans, and taxis). Other tools for improving efficiency include a dispatch management feature for handling last-minute changes, and a customer admissions management tool for quick retrieval of customer information and specifying transportation needs, such as an assistive device or escort.
Features such as time windows help improve customer service and satisfaction. When customers make a reservation – either by telephone or online using GIRO/ACCES Web Services – they receive a confirmation and a time window within which their transportation is scheduled to arrive. This feature allows customers to prepare accordingly and establishes a standard of service that they not only appreciate, but rely on.
June 2009–GIRO's Director of Marketing for HASTUS, Alain Martinais, presented the HASTUS-NetPlan module as part of the Expo Forum Sessions at this year’s UITP Mobility and City Transport Exhibition in Vienna.
NetPlan, a high-level planning module developed in collaboration with Dutch transit operator Connexxion, provides a graphical view of an entire network which enables users to define connection constraints and required frequencies. A new algorithm developed by GIRO then determines optimal times and frequencies in order to optimize the complete network and maximize connections while reducing the number of vehicles required.

The UITP World Congress takes place every two years, bringing together transit suppliers and operators in a framework conducive to trade and which enables decision makers and influencers to follow the evolution of ideas and technology.
May 2009–GIRO's Benoit Lacroix presented our new HASTUS-BidWeb module at the 2009 APTA Bus & Paratransit Conference. Benoit explained the benefits of this Web-technology based solution for both the agencies and the operators. Benefits for operators include greater control and increased flexibility for the selection of work.

February 2009–GIRO’s HASTUS software technology was featured in a recent presentation given at the APTA TransITech Conference in Toronto, Ontario by Metro Transit’s Director of Service Development, John Levin. Mr. Levin explained how the Minneapolis transit authority has significantly improved efficiency and effectiveness using HASTUS Scheduling and Operations software.
Metro Transit serves the Minneapolis/St. Paul region and is one of the largest transit authorities in the United States. In 2008 it provided nearly 82 million rides: the highest ridership in 27 years. Working closely with GIRO, Metro Transit surpassed its initial project goals and successfully integrated HASTUS into overall operations.
