GIRO’S HASTUS User Group meetings draw record attendance and keep an eye on the future
The west coasts of the United States and Australia showed the global reach of HASTUS as clients converged on Seattle and Perth for GIRO’s International and Australasian HASTUS User Group meetings. The Seattle event in October set a new record for attendance at a User Group – with over 210 participants from the USA and around the world – while the November event in Perth also attracted a record number of participants from across Australia and other countries in the region.
In addition to sessions led by GIRO’s experts to help participants perfect their technical skills with HASTUS, presentations by guest speakers from public transportation organizations and research institutes provided insights into current challenges for public transportation as well as trends for the future. Participants also made the most of the opportunity these events provide to network with their peers from other organizations and countries.
“The really skilled speakers with lots of experience and enthusiasm encourage me to learn even more about HASTUS and the different ways you can use it to get better solutions,” said Henrik Lindahl, Manager of Planning of Göteborgs Spårvägar AB. Ed Brown, Principal Scheduler from Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, stated: “The HASTUS User Groups are always very informative and helpful to users’ development.” Wesley Chan, Management Support Officer of SBS Transit Ltd., noted: “This being my first time attending a HASTUS User Group meeting, I am impressed with how the conference was organized and presented.”
“For GIRO, the HASTUS User Groups are as much about maintaining a conversation with our clients as they are about providing opportunities to learn how to get the most out of HASTUS,” said Benoit Lacroix, GIRO’s Director, Product Management. “We learn as much from our clients as they do from us and it helps us greatly in planning future developments of our software.”
The program for both events kept an eye on the future with interactive sessions in which participants helped GIRO prioritize planned developments of new HASTUS features. In Seattle, a session on electric-bus scheduling charted the way towards a zero-emissions future, with the participation of King County Metro Transit sharing its experience with introducing electric buses and supplemented by a technical visit to see electric buses in action that was fully subscribed in advance of the event.
HASTUS User Group meetings will be held in 2017 for GIRO’s Nordic and European clients. Details of the dates and venues will be posted on GIRO’s website in the coming months.
